I create dance that represents my experience with our shared humanity, motivated by musicality and the pursuit of recognizing commonality. It is rooted in a combination of storytelling and aesthetics, which for me includes the use of ballet-based technical clarity, bound yet breathy movement, and direct focus. My choreography incorporates contrasting dynamics, intricate gestures, and strong musicality, and I enjoy weaving through fluid and angular pathways, both in the physical and negative space of dancing bodies. I play with moments of alternating explosion and re-composure, finding appeal in the balance of bound and free flow.

 

I am continually inspired by music—by the silences within it, by the strength of a consistent beat, by the challenge and precision demanded of irregular meters, by the potential for exploration sparked by a new song, and by the atmosphere a well-crafted soundscape creates. Using music, I see how effectively I can transport my audience into a specific environment or situation, using both harmony and contrast in sound and form to capture my audience.

I am most excited by unity—the sensation of watching a mass of movers subtly swaying like the pendulum of a grandfather clock, or of seeing a swarm of artists coursing through expressive choreography as a single unit, or even the spark of two dancers locking eyes on stage—those sensations will forever bring me to the edge of my chair and inspire me to create. I seek to capture the electricity I feel when seeing strong unison and comport that into every moment of my art for my audience to experience. My hope is that my work excites and mystifies audiences, like dance has for me, and encourages them to treasure the gift of shared humanity.
